Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service Update: Selkirk Avenue Fire

Winnipeg, MB – At 5:42 p.m. on April 3, 2019, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service crews responded to reports of a fire in a vacant mixed use, commercial and residential building in the 500 block of Selkirk Avenue. Once on scene, crews found a well-involved fire and launched an interior, offensive attack, declaring the fire under control at 6:30 p.m. The building suffered significant fire, smoke and water damage.

Crews completed a full search of the structure and no occupants were found. One adjacent business was temporarily evacuated as a precaution. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. No damage estimates are available at this time.

Crews are expected to remain on scene for a short time into the evening ensuring all hotspots are extinguished. Traffic on Selkirk Avenue will remain closed until work is complete.
