City of Winnipeg statement regarding negotiations with ATU 1505

Released: March 28, 2019 at 2 p.m.

Winnipeg, MB – The City of Winnipeg has been in contract negotiations with Amalgamated Transit Union 1505 (ATU 1505) since January 4, 2019. On Thursday, March 21, 2019 the City presented a fair proposal to ATU 1505. While the City does not intend to bargain in public, we are confident that we have presented a fair offer for taxpayers and the union.

It’s anticipated that the union will vote on the City’s proposal beginning Monday, April 1, 2019, with results expected on Friday, April 5, 2019. If ATU 1505 rejects the City’s proposal, it will provide the union with a strike mandate.

“We are committed to negotiating in a fair and reasonable manner, and are hopeful for a successful conclusion to negotiations that won’t result in any disruption to transit services for the thousands of users that rely on it every day to get to work, university, school, and appointments,” said Michael Jack, Chief Corporate Services Officer.

Residents and visitors are reminded that Winnipeg Transit service is not currently affected by ongoing collective bargaining; however, any form of labour disruption by ATU 1505 may have an immediate impact on transit operations.
