Winnipeg, MB – St. John’s Library, located at 500 Salter Street, will be closed as of Friday, August 25 at 5 p.m. for renovations. Construction is expected to last for approximately one year, with an expected reopening in the fall of 2018.

Built in 1915, St. John’s Library has served the community for over a century. Renovations will ensure the building meets the needs of today’s users and future generations.

Renovation plans include a redesign of adult, children’s and teen areas on the main floor, as well as renovations to the computer area, and study and leisure spaces. A new extension to the south side of the building will include a bright and open reading area and an accessible entrance and washrooms. The lower level will be completely redone with two tutorial rooms, both a small and large programming room, and renovated washrooms. In addition, furnishings will be updated, and general building upgrades will be completed.

During the closure, holds for St. John’s Library customers will be sent to West Kildonan Library, 365 Jefferson Avenue, unless customers have directed their holds to be sent to a different branch.

The St. John’s Library book return will be closed during renovations. Items can be returned to any other Winnipeg Public Library branch.

Winnipeg Public Library’s online services including My Account, downloadable eBooks, eMagazines, and streaming media are available 24/7 at winnipeg.ca/library.
