City of Winnipeg celebrates Earth Day at Pacific 4R Winnipeg Depot with compost giveaway

Winnipeg, MB - To celebrate Earth Day on Saturday, April 22, the City of Winnipeg is giving away free compost at the Pacific 4R Winnipeg Depot. Citizens will have the opportunity to take home up to 100 litres of compost per vehicle that they can use for their lawns, gardens and plants, while quantities last.

All leaf and yard waste collected curbside from residents is taken to the Brady Road Resource Management Facility and turned into a nutrient-rich material called compost. This compost meets Category A standards under the Canadian Council of Ministers of the Environment (CCME) Guideline for Compost Quality, which is safe to use in all household applications, including vegetable gardens.

Compost is a natural fertilizer that promotes vegetation growth. For best results, it is recommended that citizens mix one part of this compost with three parts soil.

Earth Day event details:

  • 1120 Pacific Avenue, Saturday, April 22, 2017, 10 a.m. until 4 p.m., while compost quantities last.
  • Citizens should bring their own containers, shovels and gloves.
  • Limit of 100 litres of compost per vehicle (approximately four 20-litre/5-gallon pails).
  • The event is for Winnipeg residents only.
