First 4R Winnipeg Depot opening this Fall
Winnipeg, MB - Members of the public are reminded about an open house tonight on the new 4R Winnipeg Depot and other enhancements at the Brady Road Resource Management Facility (Brady Landfill). The open house, a drop-in format, is from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the St. Norbert Community Centre, 3450 Pembina Highway.â Information will be available on recent upgrades, improvements scheduled for this year and plans for the future.
Highlights of improvements that support the shift away from landfilling include:
- a new 9 hectare pad (about the size of 11 football fields) to compost the yard waste from the seasonal curbside collection program,
- a new 3 hectare complex (about the size of 4 football fields) to compost about 20 per cent of our community’s biosolids (nutrient-rich by-product of sewage treatment) in a pilot program scheduled to begin this summer, and
- a new 5 hectare (about the size of 6 football fields) 4R Winnipeg depot, scheduled to open this fall, where residents can drop off materials that can be recycled, reused, composted, or resold.
