City of Winnipeg snow clearing and recycling/garbage update

Crews continue to work around the clock and over the weekend to catch up

Winnipeg, MB - With the mild temperatures remaining, City salting operations on the P1 (regional) street network and the P2 (Collector/Bus Routes) network are continuing. Along with the salting, motor graders will continue to remove snowpack and slush.

Snow clearing on all missed P3 (residential) streets is still on track to be completed by tomorrow morning.

Sidewalk clearing is continuing on the residential network which is estimated to be completed by Sunday evening.

Currently the weather forecast for snowfall and possible flurries are not expected to impact operations.

Hauling operations are continuing with emphasis on restoring the curb lane to full service on the regional network. To ensure we are improving sightlines The City continues to give high priority to the piles of snow on the collector/bus route network.

Citizens are urged to use caution in and around these winter equipment operations.

Citizens are reminded that the Annual Snow Route Parking Ban remains in effect daily on streets designated as snow routes from 2:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. until March 1, 2014.

Plowing operations were completed in accordance with the City Council-approved Snow Clearing and Ice Control Policy, which can be found online at City of Winnipeg - Snow Clearing Policy

Recycling and garbage collection service is up to two days behind schedule in some neighborhoods. With the warmer temperatures, crews will be working through the weekend in an effort to be back on schedule for Monday’s collection, January 13, 2014.

Residents are advised to put their carts out on their regular collection day and leave them out until collection is provided.

Customers with recycling/garbage pickup delays of more than two days are encouraged to contact 311, open 24 hours every day, by phone at 311 or by email at 311@winnipeg.ca. We continue to track those as deficiencies and will work with the contractors to correct them.
