Fatal Motor Vehicle Collision – Investigation: C22-73395

On April 9, 2022, at approximately 9:10 p.m., a police unit attempted a traffic stop on a vehicle with lapsed insurance in the area of Selkirk Avenue and McKenzie Street. The driver of the car failed to stop and fled but was not pursued.

Soon after, the vehicle was found to have collided with a building in the 500 block of Selkirk Avenue. The driver, a 27-year-old male, was transported to a hospital in critical condition, where he was pronounced deceased.

Homicide – Investigation: C22-72540

On April 8, 2022, at 6:17 p.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the 500 block of Magnus Avenue for a report of an individual armed with weapons.

Upon arrival, officers located an adult male suspect outside a residence and took him into custody. A deceased adult male was found inside the house soon after.

The death is being investigated as a homicide, and the suspect remains in Winnipeg Police Service custody at this time.

Commercial Robberies – Arrest: C22-71487

Members of the Major Crimes Unit have charged a 13-year-old male for five robberies that occurred to a retail business in the 600 block of Dakota Street over an eight-month period:

- On August 9, 2021, at approximately 11:30 a.m., a male suspect attended the store and, while armed with a knife in his waistband, stole cash before fleeing.

- On November 22, 2021, at approximately 9:40 a.m., a male suspect attended the store, brandished a knife and stole money before fleeing.

Serious Motor Vehicle Collision – Investigation: C22-69727

Update:
After being transported to the hospital in critical condition, the victim, a male in his mid-thirties, succumbed to his injuries.

At approximately 11:30 a.m., roads were re-opened for traffic.

This morning, April 5, 2022, at approximately 6:30 a.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a serious motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian at the intersection of Lagimodiere Boulevard and Maginot Street.

Drugs & Firearm – Arrests: C22-68547

On April 4, 2022, Guns & Gangs, with the assistance of the Tactical Support Team, executed a search warrant at a residence in the 700 block of Stella Avenue as the result of an ongoing drug and firearms investigation. Five adults were taken into custody, and the following firearm and drugs were seized.

- a loaded sawed-off shotgun, and ammunition
- 23 grams of crack cocaine (estimated street value of $2,300)
- drug packaging materials
- $550 Canadian currency

Carjacking – Arrest: C22-69617

On April 5, 2022, at approximately 12:37 a.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a carjacking at Polo Park Shopping Centre. The victim is employed as a security officer responsible for the shopping center and was operating a marked security vehicle during his patrol when the incident occurred.

Weapons – Arrest: C22-69170

On April 4, 2022, at approximately 12:40 p.m., Winnipeg Police Service North District Community Support Unit members saw a male riding a bicycle near Salter Street and Church Avenue. Officers recognized the male as the subject of an Arrest Warrant, and he was stopped and advised he was under arrest; however, he discarded the bike and fled on foot.

Serious Motor Vehicle Collision – Investigation: C22-69727

This morning, April 5, 2022, at approximately 6:30 a.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a serious motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian at the intersection of Lagimodiere Boulevard and Maginot Street.

An adult male was transported to hospital in critical condition. The driver, has met with police and been identified.

The Traffic Division has taken over, and will continue to investigate. Anyone with information can contact investigators at 204-986-7085.

Homicide – Arrest & Public Assistance Requested: C22-23528

The Winnipeg Police Service continues to seek the public’s assistance in the murder of Heather Marie Cheyane BEARDY, a 26-year-old female of Winnipeg. Three suspects have been identified, with one suspect still outstanding.

On February 2, 2022, Beardy was located deceased at an apartment in the 400 block of Furby Street. As the investigation progressed, three adults who were known acquaintances of the deceased were identified.

On February 28, Amos Joe KEMATCH, a 27-year-old male, was arrested and charged with Second Degree Murder.

Aggravated Assault – Arrests: C22-67219

On April 2, 2022, at approximately 2:15 a.m., Winnipeg Police North District General Patrol Officers responded to Selkirk Street and Parr Avenue for a report of an injured elderly male. Witnesses reported the victim had been assaulted by several suspects, one armed with a machete. The victim was located lying on the ground suffering severe facial trauma due to the attack. He was transported to hospital in stable condition.

With the assistance of Air1 and a K9 unit, officers were able to locate the suspects at a nearby home.
