Downtown street closures for film production

Winnipeg, MB – The following temporary street closures will be in place on Sunday, November 18 from 7 a.m. until 1 p.m. for film production:

  • Southbound Kennedy Street from St. Mary Avenue to Broadway.
  • Eastbound York Avenue from Memorial Boulevard to Kennedy Street.

Pedestrian access will be maintained and motorists are encouraged to use alternative routes during this time.

City of Winnipeg working to reduce discoloured water occurrences

Winnipeg, MB – In an effort to reduce discoloured water events, the City of Winnipeg is changing one of the products used in our water treatment process. A report on this change will be presented at the meeting of the Standing Policy Committee on Water and Waste, Riverbank Management and the Environment on November 22, 2018.

By the end of this year, the coagulant is being switched from ferric chloride to ferric sulfate. A coagulant is a product used to help particles in the water stick together so they are easier to remove.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service Update: Selkirk Avenue Fire

Winnipeg, MB – At 8:25 p.m. on November 15, 2018, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) crews responded to reports of fire in a single-family residence in the 700 block of Selkirk Avenue. Upon arrival, crews discovered heavy fire and an offensive attack was launched to quickly bring it under control.

Occupants of the home had self-evacuated prior to the arrival of WFPS crews. No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation and no damage estimates are available at this time.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service and Winnipeg Police Service urge caution due to thin ice conditions on city waterways

Winnipeg, MB – With temperatures dropping, residents are advised that thin ice conditions are present on Winnipeg waterways, including drainage ditches, culverts, streams, creeks, retention ponds and rivers.

Parents and teachers are urged to speak to children and students about the dangers of waterways. The ice surfaces are thin and fragile, and falling into ice-cold water can be deadly.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service Update: Saturn Bay Fire

Winnipeg, MB – At 1:36 p.m. on November 14, 2018, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) crews responded to a report of fire in a single-family residence in the 0-100 block of Saturn Bay. Upon arrival, crews discovered heavy smoke and an offensive attack was launched to quickly extinguish the fire.

One occupant of the home was transported to hospital in stable condition. The cause of the fire is under investigation and no damage estimates are available at this time.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service Update

Wayoata Street Fire

Winnipeg, MB – At 7:43 p.m. on November 13, 2018, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) crews responded to a fire in a side-by-side residence in the 900 block of Wayoata Street. Upon arrival, an offensive attack was launched and the fire was quickly extinguished.

All occupants of the residence had self-evacuated prior to crews’ arrival. The neighbouring structure was evacuated for precautionary reasons. No injuries were reported.

Residents advised to take measures to protect internal plumbing from freezing

Winnipeg, MB – With colder winter weather on its way, the City of Winnipeg is recommending property owners weatherproof their basements or crawlspaces to prevent their internal plumbing from freezing.

Internal plumbing that isn’t protected can freeze every winter. Every year, 311 receives a number of reports from properties with no water due to frozen internal plumbing.
