Living Prairie Museum seeking volunteers to help collect native prairie seeds

Winnipeg, MB – The Living Prairie Museum is seeking volunteers to help collect native seeds in some of Winnipeg's prairie habitats. Volunteers will learn about the museum's efforts to conserve the genetic diversity of prairie landscapes, as well as sustainable harvesting practices. Volunteers will also be able to keep some of the seeds they collect.

Statement From Mayor Brian Bowman Regarding Illegal Drugs On Our Streets

Winnipeg, MB – Today, Mayor Brian Bowman released the following statement regarding a motion he intends to bring forward at the next EPC meeting on September 12, 2018:

“As with cities across our nation, Winnipeg is not immune to the presence of illegal drugs on our streets.

Unfortunately, it has become very prevalent in our city and at an alarming rate.

The presence of illegal drugs is stretching the limits of support groups and health professionals who are struggling to keep up with this crisis.

Winnipeg Transit Fall Schedule in effect Sunday, September 2

Winnipeg, MB – Beginning Sunday, September 2, Winnipeg Transit’s fall schedule will be in effect. The fall schedule will see improved frequency and reliability on all routes serving the University of Manitoba, as well as improved service along Kenaston, Waverley and through River Heights.

City releases 2018 second quarter financial update

Winnipeg, MB – The City of Winnipeg’s second quarterly financial update will be presented at the meeting of the Standing Policy Committee on Finance on September 4, 2018.The Financial Status Report to June 30, 2018 cites a year-end projected deficit in the tax-supported operating budget (General Revenue Fund) totalling $2.7 million, as at June 30, 2018. This marks a reduction of $9.4 million since the first quarter projection, which cited a $12.1 million projected deficit as of March 31, 2018.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service update: Mayfair Place Fire

Winnipeg, MB – At 6:05 a.m. on Monday, August 27, 2018, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) crews responded to a report of a fire at a seven-story apartment building on Mayfair Place. Upon arrival, crews found a working fire. A second alarm was called, increasing the number of apparatus and WFPS crew members on the scene, due to the potential for high life hazards when dealing with an occupied apartment block.
