Making a more inclusive and welcoming city

Our path to respecting, protecting, and promoting human rights

We are committed to respecting, protecting, and promoting human rights.

In partnership with the Human Rights Committee of Council, our Awareness & Action Speaker Series brings local experts and community leaders together to discuss important human rights issues.

These learning opportunities are open to members of the public, and are intended to help foster a more inclusive, safe, healthy, and welcoming community for all Winnipeggers, and a greater understanding of important human rights issues.

In partnership with the Canadian Museum for Human Rights and Government of Manitoba, we are hosting an event to discuss gender-based violence and ways to prevent it.

The Speaker Series event Engaging Men for a Safer Tomorrow: Holistic Action Against Gender-Based Violence is taking place virtually on December 2, 2024, and will feature panelists Isabel Daniels, Hennes Doltze, Roni Dhaliwal, and Karen Sharma. If you are unable to attend, a recording of the session will be available online.

“We know how important it is to bring people together, to have conversations, and to broaden our knowledge, which is why the Speaker Series events are so beneficial,” said Bradley West, Manager of the City’s Equity Office.

“Hearing from experts in their fields, as well as individuals with lived experience is tremendously important and helps broaden our understanding, and ultimately inform our efforts to create a more inclusive city.”

Our efforts to create a more inclusive and welcoming city are reflected in various strategic plans and policies, like the Newcomer Welcome & Inclusion Policy, the Poverty Reduction Strategy, and the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Strategy, among others.

You can watch previous Speaker Series events, and view a full listing of past events by topic on our website.
