Behind the scenes of the Bonivital Pool upgrades

Facility now open again after critical renewal work

Winnipeg residents can once again dip their toes in Bonivital Pool. The pool reopened after being closed for just over a year to complete critical building renewal work.

The bulk of the construction work was done behind the scenes, including upgrades to the pool filtration system and the Heat Recovery Ventilator (HRV) system which regulates the humidity in the building.

“If the upgrades to the HRV system were not done, it would mean mechanical, electrical, and pool components could have been damaged because of high humidity in the building,” said Glen Stefanyshen, Superintendent of Building, Asset Operations and Energy Management for the City of Winnipeg.

The pool deck and the tank underwent concrete rehabilitation to repair any deterioration and protect against future water seepage. New tile was also installed through the facility.

“We are excited to be able to welcome back pool users to Bonivital pool and thank them for their patience as we completed this important project,” said Jennifer Sarna, Manager of Recreation Services.

Due to current COVID-19 public health restrictions, Bonivital Pool will operate at 25 percent capacity for aquatic sports groups, lane swimming, aquatic fitness classes, and limited public swimming.
