Winnipeg, Manitoba - Major repair milestones to the skywalk between Delta Winnipeg Hotel and the RBC Winnipeg Convention Centre have been reached.
The contractor has begun work to repair the skywalk, which includes shoring installation (installation of a temporary support system). Once the temporary shoring has been completed, final design and construction of a permanent repair will be initiated.
To accommodate the shoring work, the following lane closure will be in place:
- A section of the west curb lane of Carlton Street between St. Mary Avenue and York Avenue will be closed from 7:00 a.m. on Monday, July 20 to 5:00 p.m. on Friday, August 7. The three remaining lanes and bike lane on Carlton Street will remain open. Motorists are advised to allow for additional travel time or to use alternate routes in this area to reach their destinations.
The skywalk was closed to pedestrian traffic on April 9, 2015 when it was noticed there was a need for an assessment of the connection to the Convention Centre.
The skywalk remains closed as this work progresses. Further updates will be provided to the public as they become available.
The City would like to apologize for any inconvenience this temporary closure may cause and thanks the public for their patience as this matter is resolved.
