Winnipeg, MB - At 11:45 p.m. on Thursday, October 9, 2014, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) crews responded to a report of a fire in in the eight-hundred block of Gateway Road. Upon arrival, firefighters discovered one side of the wood-framed duplex fully involved with fire.
Crews quickly reduced a major amount of the flame and used vertical ventilation to release smoke and heat so that interior fire control and a search for occupants could be conducted. There was extensive fire, smoke, and water damage to this portion of the property.
Firefighters used positive pressure ventilation to prevent the fire from spreading to the other half of the duplex. Although there was some damage from smoke and water, firefighters were able to protect and save some of the home’s contents through the use of salvage equipment (tarps etc.) and techniques.
Cause of the fire is under investigation and there were no injuries (no residents of the duplex were home at the time of the fire). A damage estimate is unavailable at this time.
