Winnipeg, MB - Today the City of Winnipeg provided an update on its new surplus asset website, launched on May 6, 2014. To date, the online sales listings have generated $119,900 through the sale of 25 items. New items are added regularly to the website which had 15,202 visits in the first month.
“We are pleased with the public’s response to the new website and are confident that sales will continue to grow as more people become aware of the online listings,” said Mike Ruta, Chief Financial Officer.
The City of Winnipeg has previously used private auction services to manage the disposal of its surplus vehicles. The new website is modelled after the City of Calgary’s method for sale of surplus assets. Calgary generally attains revenues 10 to 20 per cent higher than those sold through auction.
Vehicles appearing for sale on the new website are available for viewing by appointment and are sold as is and with no guarantees or warranties. Options for payment are bank draft, certified cheque or money order. Appointments may be booked by phoning 204-918-3608 or by email.
