Ukrainian Bookshelf now open at Winnipeg Public Library

More than 120 books donated through initiative of Ukraine’s First Lady

Collection of Ukrainian-language books

Books help connect us to our language, history, and culture. Thanks to the Ukrainian Bookshelf project, Winnipeggers now have access to more books written in Ukrainian.

Nearly 100,000 people of Ukrainian descent call Winnipeg home. Recently, the Ukrainian Consulate donated more than 120 books to the Winnipeg Public Library. The collection includes books written in Ukrainian for both adults and children.

“We are honoured to receive this generous gift from the Ukrainian Consulate,” said Karin Borland, Manager of Library Services.

These books will serve as an important cultural link for Ukrainian residents of all ages.

The Ukrainian Bookshelf is an initiative of the First Lady of Ukraine, Olena Zelenska. Winnipeg is the fourth Canadian city to participate in this project, joining Montreal, Ottawa, and Toronto.

We invite you to browse the books, available at Millennium Library. You can also search our online catalogue to find what’s available and place a hold for pick-up at any Winnipeg Public Library branch.
