At Winnipeg Animal Services, every day offers a chance to help animals and the community. This Animal Shelter and Rescue Awareness Day, we’re taking a moment to appreciate these heroes.

The Animal Services team works hard to reunite lost pets with their worried families. They also teach residents about responsible pet ownership. When their kennels have space, they extend their support to local rescue groups. Every team member shows what makes Winnipeg's animal welfare community so special.

"We have an amazing team of clerks, officers, kennel assistants, registered vet techs, and managers,” said Jennifer Harrower, Acting General Manager of Animal Services.

“They are committed to animal welfare and creating a safe, kind community.” The team provides daily care and enrichment to the animals in the facility. They also help pet owners with important questions. “You won't find a more knowledgeable, talented, and diverse group of people who absolutely love animals."

The backbone of their success isn't just their professional staff. Jennifer Medlicott, Community Relations Coordinator, speaks warmly of their volunteers. "Our volunteers want nothing more than to help enrich the lives of animals in our care. They are dedicated to giving back to the city they call home."

We are so grateful for the volunteers who give so much of their time to us.

Winnipeg Animal Services embraces a humane, prevention-focused approach to animal welfare. The team stays at the forefront of industry expertise and works to address challenges like pet overpopulation.

Thank you to the staff and volunteers who work hard to create a more compassionate city for all residents—both human and animal. Your work reminds us that a community's heart can be measured by how it treats its most vulnerable members.

Visit the Animal Services’ website for adoption information, licensing fees, and our Responsible Pet Ownership By-law.
