If you weren’t one of the 50,767 eligible voters who cast their ballot during advance voting period, Election Day is last chance to vote in the 2026 Municipal Council and School Boards Election.
There are 12 candidates running for Mayor, 54 total candidates for Councillor, and more than 90 total candidates for School Trustee. The list of nominated candidates for Mayor, Councillor, and School Trustee is shown in the order the names will appear on the ballot.
We want to make sure the voting process is as smooth as possible for you on October 28. Here are a few things you should know before heading out to the polls.
Am I eligible to vote?
Make sure to confirm you’re eligible for a ballot before heading to the polls.
To be eligible to vote for Mayor and Councillor in this election, you must a Canadian citizen, at least 18 years old on October 28, and an actual resident or property owner in the City of Winnipeg since April 28, 2026.
The same eligibility applies when voting for School Trustee, with the added requirement of being an actual resident in the school division ward on October 28.
When can I vote?
Election Day is October 28. It happens every four years and is always on the third Wednesday in October.
Voting locations are open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. While you have 12 hours to cast your ballot, we are anticipating the busiest times will be right when the locations open and then again from 3 p.m. until close.
If you have the option to, consider voting between 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. This is typically a quieter period so the process may be a little quicker for you.
Don’t worry if you are still in line waiting to vote and it is 8 p.m. As long as you stay in line, you will still be able to cast your ballot.
Where do I vote?
There are 184 voting locations operating on Election Day. You are encouraged to vote at one of the assigned voting locations on your voter’s notice. You can search your address at winnipeg.ca/wheredoivote for your complete list of voting locations available to you.
What should I bring?
If you’ve received a voter’s notice, make sure to bring it with you when you go to vote. It will make the process quicker and easier. Also double check you have your id with you, and it meets the requirements, before heading to the polls.
You must show proof of your name and current address. There are two options for what you can show.
You can either show one piece of government-issued identification that has your photo, name, and address or two pieces of authorized identification that together provide evidence of your name and current address. Both must have your name and at least one must have your current address. Check out the list of types of ID accepted at the polls.
If you are a parent or caregiver, you are welcome to bring children in your care with you when you vote.
When will results be available?
Results will be available on the election website shortly after polls close at 8 p.m. They will be updated as results are received from voting locations.
Due to changes made to some school division ward boundaries, there are four wards that extend outside of City of Winnipeg limits. Polling locations in these areas are operated by the local municipalities and ballots cast at them will be hand counted.
This means school trustee results from these polling locations may be delayed and winners may not be declared until October 29. The election website will continue to be updated as results from the neighbouring municipalities are received.
