Winnipeg, MB – We are working to make Winnipeg Transit Plus a more accessible service.
In a report to the Standing Policy Committee on Public Works published today, we are recommending important policy changes related to:
- Eligibility
- No-show and late cancellations
- Carry-on bags
"These proposed changes reflect our ongoing commitment to making the service more accessible and customer-focused,” said Mayor Scott Gillingham. “By listening to Transit Plus users and modernizing policies, we can remove barriers, improve the customer experience, and ensure the service continues to support those who rely on it every day."
"We are always working to make Winnipeg Transit Plus a more accessible service," said Councillor Janice Lukes, Chair of the Standing Policy Committee on Public Works. "Over the years, we've heard continued calls to expand eligibility. That's exactly what we're doing. More people will soon be able to access this service."
Eligibility Policy
Changes would expand who qualifies for Transit Plus. The current policy is a medical diagnosis-based model. The recommended change focuses on people who are unable to use the conventional transit service (some or all of the time) due to:
- Physical abilities
- Cognitive abilities
- Sensory abilities
No-Show and Late Cancellation Policy
Changes would replace the outdated fee-based policy. The recommended policy would focus on clear expectations and education. This would ensure our vehicles are available for customers who need them. Short-notice cancellations create scheduling inefficiencies. They also limit our ability to reassign trips.
Carry-On Bag Policy
Changes would make the policy more flexible. It would allow customers to bring items they need. Customers must manage all items within their seating area.
Learn more about our proposed policy changes. Council will consider them at the Thursday, July 16 meeting.[DJ1]
