City maintains Aa2 (Stable) credit rating

Released: November 14, 2025 at 8:59 a.m.

Winnipeg, MB – Moody’s has recently affirmed the City of Winnipeg's Aa2 (Stable) credit rating.

The credit rating is based in part on prudent fiscal management and a sound governance management structure.

“As we continue to face financial pressures in a challenging budget environment, it’s encouraging to receive Moody’s affirmation,” said Jeff Browaty, Chairperson of the Standing Policy Committee on Finance and Economic Development. “It illustrates our ongoing commitment to sound fiscal management.”

In its research update, Moody’s noted that the City also benefits from a diversified economy and population increases.

“It’s essential that we continue investing in infrastructure to support our growing city, which is expected to increase by 124,500 people by 2050,” said Browaty. “Moody’s research update factors in Phase 3 of the North End Sewage Treatment Plant project, which is key to Winnipeg’s future growth, competitiveness, and environmental stewardship.”
