Winnipeg, MB – Tails were wagging this morning as we officially opened a new shade shelter at Maple Grove Dog Park.
“Maple Grove is more than a park, it’s a vibrant community hub,” said Councillor Markus Chambers, St. Norbert–Seine River. “Enhancements like this reflect how much we value spaces where people and pets can connect. This new shelter is an investment in the shared places that bring people together and make Maple Grove even more welcoming and enjoyable for families year-round.”
Elected officials were joined at the ribbon cutting by members of the Maple Grove Park Dog Owners Association, who were celebrating their fall “pawty” at the site.
“It’s always a win when we can provide enhancements that make community spaces more enjoyable for our residents,” said Councillor Janice Lukes, Waverley West. “We know dogs need exercise rain or shine, and now these owners have a roof over their heads while their pets play in case either of those things are too strong.”
Users can reach the shelter via a new granular path. More than $35,000 in solar lighting will soon be activated to illuminate nightly strolls.
The project cost $91,262 and was funded by the St. Norbert-Seine River Parks and Recreation Enhancement Program ($82,763) and Waverley West Land Dedication Reserve Fund ($8,500).
