Winnipeg, MB – The Winnipeg Public Library is pleased to announce that Ariel Gordon is its new Writer-in-Residence for 2025-2026. Her term begins October 1, 2025.
Ariel Gordon is a Winnipeg/Treaty 1 territory-based writer, editor, and enthusiast. She is the coordinator of Writes of Spring, a National Poetry Month project with the Winnipeg International Writers Festival. She is a poetry editor of The Goose, an environmentally-themed journal. Gordon is the author of seven books, the most recent of which are the essay collection Fungal: Foraging in the Urban Forest (Wolsak & Wynn, 2024) and the just-released speculative fiction novel Blood Letters, co-authored with GMB Chomichuk (Great Plains Press, 2025). Ariel also worked as a publicist for University of Manitoba Press and the Winnipeg International Writers Festival, and as a copy editor with the Winnipeg Free Press.
"I joined Winnipeg’s writing and publishing community when I was nineteen,” said Gordon. “I benefitted enormously from past Writers-in-Residence. It was a dream to be the Writer-in-Residence myself one day and I am honoured to have been chosen. My goal is to bring writers into community in a positive way, advise on writing and the writing life, connect them with other writers, and to celebrate their work.”
Gordon will provide one-on-one consultations and writing workshops. Her term also includes time to work on a personal writing project.
The Writer-in-Residence is a free service for emerging and established Manitoba writers of all genres. Manuscripts can be submitted for review by email or by mail. Visit winnipeg.ca/writerinres for complete submission guidelines.
Ariel’s term as Writer-in-Residence at the Winnipeg Public Library runs until April 30, 2026.
The Writer-in-Residence program is funded by the City of Winnipeg, the Winnipeg Public Library Board, the Friends of the Winnipeg Public Library, and Manitoba Sport, Culture, Heritage and Tourism.
