Winnipeg, MB – The Winnipeg Public Library is pleased to announce that Shivanya Ra has been selected as the next Maker-in-Residence at the Library.
Ra (she/they) is an emerging disabled visual artist, curator, and advocate for disability representation and accessibility. Her term will include weekly sensory-friendly drop-ins that are open to all.
“My creative journey is rooted in a desire to make meaningful contributions through visual art. Through drawing, painting, printmaking, photography, collage, curated installations, and interactive elements, I seek to redefine both myself and the world around me,” said Ra. “I aim to invite dialogue, encourage reflection, and most of all, spark curiosity. Art is a bridge—a visceral language for communicating the complexities of identity, space, and human and environmental connections.”
The Maker-in-Residence program operates out of the ideaMILL at Millennium Library. this will be the last Maker-in-Residence term of 2025. Ra’s term will run from September 10 to December 11, 2025. Throughout the program, the maker will offer weekly drop-in studio time to invite visitors into the creative process with activities to learn new skills. The maker will also offer workshops at library branches.
Current Maker-in-Residence Callen Maude’s term also continues to October 9, 2025.
The next round of Maker-in-Residences will be in 2026. Interested makers are encouraged to monitor the Maker-in-Residence website for application deadlines.
