Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fires on Langside Street

Released: December 8, 2023 at 9:01 a.m.

Winnipeg, MB – At 3:06 a.m. on Friday, December 8, 2023, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in a garage in the 500 block of Langside Street.

When crews arrived to the scene, they found the fire had spread from the detached garage to the vacant, two-and-a-half storey house on the property. Heavy smoke and flames were coming from both the garage and house. Crews launched a defensive fire attack from the exterior as it was not safe to enter the structures. The fire was declared under control at 4:37 a.m.

Once the fire was extinguished, crews carefully made entry to the house. No occupants were found. The two neighbouring homes were temporarily evacuated as a precaution. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. The house and garage suffered significant damages, and both are considered to be a complete loss.

The house had previously been damaged by fire in November 2023.
