Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to structure fires in two vacant buildings and updates on the fire at the Windsor Hotel

Winnipeg, MB – Since last night, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to two fires in vacant houses and finished work at the site of the fire in the Windsor Hotel.

Alexander Avenue

At 10:14 p.m. on September 13, 2023, WFPS responded to reports of a structure fire in a vacant house in the 400 block of Alexander Avenue.

At the scene, crews saw smoke coming from the house. Firefighters attacked the fire from the inside while searching for occupants. No one was located and no injuries were reported. The fire was declared under control at 10:37 p.m.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. No damage estimates are available. WFPS previously responded to this house for a fire the night before.

Parr Street

At 7:25 a.m. on September 14, 2023, the WFPS responded to a fire in a single storey residential home in the 100 block of Parr Street.

At the scene, crews saw heavy smoke and flames coming from the building. Firefighters attacked the fire from the inside, declaring the fire under control at 7:49 a.m. Firefighters searched the building and no one was located. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. No damage estimates are available.

Update: Windsor Hotel

Overnight, a contractor completed emergency demolition of the Windsor Hotel at 187 Garry Street. The WFPS ordered an emergency demolition of the building to ensure the fire was fully extinguished and to ensure the scene was safe when crews departed.

Manitoba Hydro restored power to the Beacon Hill Lodge.
