Voters in Elmwood-East Kildonan council ward will elect a new City Councillor this Saturday, October 25, 2025.
This Saturday’s by-election will also see School Trustee vacancies filled for Louis Riel School Division - Ward 3 and Pembina Trails School Division - Ward 1.
Benefits of voting on a Saturday
The City is required to hold general elections on the fourth Wednesday of October every four years. There is more flexibility for the date and time of a by-election. Scheduling a by-election on a Saturday helps with the availability of election workers, voters, and voting locations.
“When we hold a by-election on a Saturday, we notice it is easier for staff recruitment and to secure voting locations,” said Sherwood Armbruster, the City of Winnipeg Senior Election Official. “We also find voters have more room in their schedules on a Saturday compared to a weekday.”
This by-election is just over a year out from the next general Municipal Council and School Boards Election. That will take place on Wednesday, October 28, 2026.
Advance voting
Advance voting for the by-election wrapped up on Wednesday. Eligible voters were able to cast their ballots at City Hall and at designated locations in the community. By-election workers also visited several locations, including care homes and hospitals.
