Winnipeg, MB – New safety measures are coming soon to Millennium Library.
Today, the City of Winnipeg awarded a contract to replace the guardrails on all floors above ground level at the library.
“Millennium Library is an important community hub, and it is crucial that everyone who walks through the doors feels safe and welcome,” said Councillor Vivian Santos, Chairperson of the Standing Policy Committee on Community Services. “These upgraded guardrails are an investment that will improve safety throughout the building and support a library where people can continue to gather, learn, and explore.”
We will install new guardrails made from both tempered and laminated glass as well as aluminum. The new barriers will be significantly taller than the existing glass railings.
The new guardrails on the second and third floor will be seven feet in height
The new guardrails on the fourth floor will be eight feet in height
We expect to begin installation later this spring.
We will share additional details about timelines and potential service impacts in the coming weeks.
The new guardrails support ongoing safety improvements at Millennium Library and will cost approximately $1.4 million. The project was approved in the City of Winnipeg’s 2026 Budget.
