Winnipeg, MB – At 11:32 p.m. on February 28, 2026, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to a fire in a one-a-half storey house in the 600 block of Nassau Street South. On-duty Winnipeg Police Service (WPS) members first reported the fire.
When WFPS crews arrived at the scene, they found heavy smoke and flames coming from the home. Firefighters entered the house to begin an interior fire attack but were forced to withdraw due to worsening conditions. They transitioned to an exterior fire attack, using an aerial ladder and hose lines to apply water to the fire. They declared the fire under control at 2:43 a.m.
No injuries have been reported, but one individual remains unaccounted for. WPS and WFPS crews remain on scene at this time, conducting a systematic search of the structure and continuing their investigation.
The house sustained extensive smoke, fire and water damages and is believed to be a complete loss. Damage estimates are not available.
Water from firefighting efforts has frozen, creating slippery conditions in the area. Once responders clear the scene, City crews will monitor the site and apply sand and de‑icing materials to roads and sidewalks as needed to improve traction.
