Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to a fire on Archibald Street

Released: January 8, 2026 at 9:20 a.m.

Winnipeg, MB – At 3:36 a.m. on Thursday, January 8, 2026, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) crews responded to a fire in a vacant, single-storey industrial building on the 0–100 block of Archibald Street. On-duty Winnipeg Police Service members first reported the fire.

When crews arrived, they saw heavy smoke and flames coming from the building. Because of the intense fire, firefighters could not enter. They launched a defensive attack, using aerial ladders and handlines to pour water on the fire.

The WFPS drone was deployed to provide aerial and thermal imaging, helping crews direct water streams and locate hotspots.

The building has sustained severe smoke, fire, and water damage. Due to structural concerns and to aid in the location of hotspots, WFPS is arranging an emergency demolition of the building.

No injuries have been reported.

Archibald Street is closed between Nairn Avenue and Mission Street. When the road reopens, residents should use caution. Water from firefighting efforts will freeze and create slippery conditions.

City crews will monitor the area and apply sand and de-icing agents to roads and sidewalks as needed to improve traction.

The fire is under investigation.

Damage estimates are not available. The property includes several buildings which have been damaged by previous fires in September 2025May 2025 and November 2023.

Anyone who sees someone actively entering a vacant building, or removing boards from windows or doors from a building, should call 911 to report the incident immediately.

If you notice breached windows or doors but do not see anyone actively entering or trying to enter the building, report the incident to 311 by phone or online
