Released: December 18, 2025 at 10:53 a.m.

Winnipeg, MB – Snow clearing and ice control crews continue plowing main roads.

Plowing of sidewalks is paused due to blowing snow. We expect to resume clearing sidewalks and pathways at 7 p.m.

We will also start a grader plow on main routes tonight at 7 p.m.

We have scheduled a back lane plow for Saturday morning at 7 a.m.

  • Libraries are expected to maintain regular service hours.
  • Commercial and residential inspections are suspended this morning. Staff are calling all booked appointments to update customers.
  • All in-person employment interviews scheduled for today have either been rescheduled or moved online.
  • Winnipeg Police Service customer service headquarters (245 Smith St.) is closed today. Station Duty will remain open for emergencies only.
  • A reminder we have cancelled today’s garbage and recycling collection. We anticipate those scheduled for Thursday service will be collected tomorrow (Friday). Those with Friday pick-up will be collected Saturday.
  • The following waste management facilities are closed for the day:
    • The landfill at Brady Road Resource Management Facility
    • All 4R Winnipeg Depots

Traffic and Transit impacts

We expect continued citywide traffic delays as blowing snow continues to affect roads.

The Slaw Rebchuck Bridge is closed until further notice due to snow and slippery conditions. We will attempt to reopen it as quickly as possible.

Motorists should drive to conditions and use extreme caution when near heavy equipment.

Winnipeg Transit is experiencing delays and some cancellations Please check up-to-date schedules online before travelling.

Emergency Services impacts

Poor driving conditions can make it harder and slower for emergency crews to reach calls.

Snow-covered roads, drifting, and icy intersections can increase response times. While crews are working hard to make roadways passable, we encourage people to stay home if possible.

How staying home can help:

  • Fewer vehicles on the road reduce collisions and free up emergency routes
  • Staying off the roads helps crews reach critical calls faster
  • It keeps you safe from becoming stranded or injured in poor conditions

Parking bans

A reminder that the annual winter route parking ban is in effect. There is no parking between 2 a.m. and 7 a.m. on streets designated as winter routes. Those parked in violation may be ticketed and towed to the towing company’s compound.

Winter routes are marked by signage. They can also be found:
