Winnipeg, MB – The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to a fire in a high-rise apartment building and a vehicle/grass fire this morning.
Evergreen Place Fire
At 8:41 a.m. on Friday, May 30, 2025, WFPS crews responded to a monitored fire alarm in a high-rise apartment building on Evergreen Place.
When crews arrived at the scene, there was light smoke in the building. They determined that the building’s sprinkler system had activated and extinguished a fire.
There were no injuries reported.
While fire damage was minimal, the building sustained significant water damage. The City’s Emergency Social Services team was deployed to the scene to assist residents whose suites were impacted. Work continues in collaboration with the building’s management team. Currently, we are not able to confirm how many suites are impacted, or how many residents are displaced.
The fire is under investigation. Damage estimates are not available.
Main Street fire
At 9:46 a.m. on Friday, May 30, 2025, the WFPS responded to reports of a vehicle fire in a field near the 2200 block of Main Street. The reports indicated that the fire extended to the adjacent grass and brush and was quickly spreading. The report also indicated that an individual may be trapped in the vehicle.
When crews arrived at the scene, they confirmed that the two occupants of the vehicle had evacuated. One was assessed by paramedics and transported in hospital in unstable condition.
Crews worked to extinguish the grass fire with handlines and specialized wildland firefighting equipment.
The fire covered an area of approximately 8,300 square meters (about two acres).
The incident remains under investigation.
