Update on Abduction – Arrest: C24-189985

As previously released:

The Winnipeg Police Service issued a media release about a kidnapping incident involving an adult male on August 16, 2024.

The victim was assaulted and abducted from a Millpond Path neighbourhood and subsequently sexually assaulted at gunpoint.

The Major Crimes Unit previously arrested and charged Gurpreet VEHNIWAL, (34), of West St. Paul with the following offences:

  • Robbery
  • Kidnapping
  • Sexual Assault - Firearm
  • Extortion
  • Break and Enter and Commit Robbery - Dwelling House
  • Break and Enter with Intent – Dwelling House
  • Attempt Obstruct Justice
  • Uttering Threats – Cause Death or Bodily Harm
  • Assault with a Weapon
  • Pointing a Firearm
  • Careless Use of Firearm, Ammunition, Prohibited Weapon or Device

Update:

The Major Crimes Unit continued investigating. A second suspect was identified, and a warrant for his arrest was issued.

On September 3, 2024, a 27-year-old male, Jashanbeersingh GILL of Winnipeg, turned himself in on the strength of this warrant.

He has been charged with similar offences.

He was released on a Release Order by a Justice.
