Condolence message for Grand Chief Cathy Merrick

The Winnipeg Police Service extends our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs Grand Chief Cathy Merrick, as well as the community of Pimicikamak Cree Nation.  Her sudden passing is a significant loss to families and communities across Manitoba. We have lost a strong advocate for the Indigenous community and a leader and visionary for positive change and reconciliation.

Grand Chief Merrick generously gave her time and counsel to the Winnipeg Police Service, partnering in our shared commitment to justice and community safety and wellbeing.

She led with love and compassion, and was devoted to effecting positive and necessary changes by building partnerships, including one with the Winnipeg Police Service.  It was our honour to work with her.  We will fondly remember her kindness and leadership, and will miss her friendship,

Our hearts are with you.

From Acting Chief Art Stannard on behalf of the Executive Management Team and the Winnipeg Police Service membership.
