Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Alfred Avenue

Winnipeg, MBAt 3:11 a.m. on Monday, July 22, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service crews responded to reports of fire at a two-storey house in the 300 block of Alfred Avenue.

When crews arrived on scene, they saw smoke coming from the structure and received reports that someone may be trapped inside. They entered the house to search for the occupant, and removed them from the building. Paramedics quickly assessed the patient and transported them to hospital in critical condition.

While some firefighters were working to remove the occupant, another crew launched a fire attack, using hose lines to put the fire out. It was declared under control at 4 a.m.

Firefighters also located multiple pets while searching the house. Two cats and one dog were found deceased. Four kittens were removed from the home safely. The City of Winnipeg's Animal Services Agency was called to provide care for the animals.

Damage estimates are not available. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
