Winnipeg, MB – At 2:01 a.m. on Friday, June 21, 2024, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in a vacant, two-and-a-half storey house in the 600 block of Logan Avenue.
When crews arrived to the scene, they found the house engulfed in smoke and flames.
They launched a fire attack from the exterior using an aerial ladder truck to apply water to the fire while also protecting neighbouring properties.
Once fire conditions improved, they were able to make entry to the house to fully extinguish the fire. The fire was declared under control at 4:38 a.m.
Crews completed a search of the house and no occupants were found.
Neighbouring houses were temporarily evacuated as a precaution. A Winnipeg Transit bus was deployed to the scene to provide shelter for the evacuees.
One firefighter was assessed by on-scene paramedics but did not require transport to hospital. No other injuries were reported.
The house sustained significant smoke, fire, and water damage. Damage estimates are not available at this time.
The fire is under investigation.
