2023 Annual Statistical Report

Released: June 18, 2024 at 2:28 p.m.

The Winnipeg Police Service 2023 Statistical Report* is, by its nature, a collection of crimes reported to police that occurred in Winnipeg. While the statistics are accurate, what’s missing is the context and stories behind the crime reports.

While there was a decrease in overall crime, the total calls to our Communications Centre have increased substantially over the past five years. Wellbeing Checks remained the top citizen-generated event for the fourth year in a row. However, mass assemblies, demonstrations and major events continue to be areas of concern and attention for the Service.

I would like to acknowledge all members of the Winnipeg Police Service for their care and commitment to those who live, work, and play in Winnipeg. Thank you for watching out for our community, and watching out for each other.

Danny G. Smyth

Chief of Police

*The Statistical Report has undergone a major change in terms of format and delivery in 2023. The Business Intelligence Unit at WPS with support from Esri Canada has moved the report from a static, magazine style document, to a web-based, interactive and dynamic site hosted within the ArcGIS Hub platform.
