Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Redwood Avenue

Winnipeg, MB – At 11:11 p.m. on Tuesday, May 28, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service crews responded to reports of fire at a three-storey apartment building in the 400 block of Redwood Avenue.

When crews arrived on scene, they saw smoke coming from the building. They entered the structure and launched an offensive fire attack using water and foam to put the fire out. It was declared under control at 11:49 p.m.

Residents of the building self-evacuated before crews arrived on scene. Three people were assessed by paramedics and transported to hospital in unstable condition.

Firefighters completed a search of the building and rescued one cat. Two other cats were found deceased.

The City’s Emergency Social Services team was called to help find temporary accommodations for displaced residents.

Damage estimates are not available at this time. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
