Released: April 23, 2024 at 9:02 a.m.

Winnipeg, MB – At 4:49 a.m. on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to a fire in a vacant, two-storey house in the 200 block of Powers Street. The fire was discovered and reported by an on-duty Winnipeg Police Service crew driving through the area.

When WFPS crews arrived to the scene, there was heavy smoke and flames coming from the house. They launched a defensive fire attack from the exterior of the house, using an aerial ladder truck to apply water to the fire. Once the fire conditions improved, crews transitioned to an interior fire attack. The fire was declared under control at 6:46 a.m.

There were no injuries reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. The house had previously been damaged by fire on April 19, 2024.

While damage estimates are not available at this time, the house is considered a complete loss.
