Winnipeg, MB – The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to two overnight house fires.
Arlington Street fire
At 1:40 a.m. on Thursday, March 14, 2024, the WFPS responded to a fire in a vacant bungalow in the 700 block of Arlington Street. The fire was reported by on-duty Winnipeg Police Service members.
When WFPS crews arrived to the scene, there was heavy smoke and flames coming from the structure. Crews initially launched a defensive fire attack from the exterior. Once conditions improved, they were able to enter the house and transition to an interior fire attack. The fire was declared under control at 3:28 a.m.
Crews completed a search of the house and no occupants were found. There were no injuries reported.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. Damage estimates are not available at this time.
Pritchard Avenue fire
At 2:11 a.m. on Thursday, March 14, 2024, WFPS crews responded to reports of a fire in a one-and-a-half storey house in the 500 block of Pritchard Avenue.
Upon arrival on scene, crews found smoke coming from the house. They fought the fire from inside the house, declaring the fire under control at 2:26 a.m.
All occupants self-evacuated prior to the arrival of fire crews. Two individuals were assessed by paramedics but did not require transport to hospital.
The fire is under investigation. Damage estimates are not available at this time.
