Winnipeg, MB – At 1:34 p.m. on Thursday, March 7, 2024, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of fire in a three-storey apartment building in the first 100 block of Young Street. Reports indicated some residents were trapped in their suites.
When crews arrived on scene, they found smoke coming from the building. They immediately launched an interior fire attack and worked to rescue those trapped in their suites. Several residents were brought out using aerial ladder trucks and ground ladders.
Paramedics assessed five individuals on-scene, and transported three individuals to hospital in unstable condition.
All other occupants were able to self-evacuate from the building, and no other injuries were reported.
The Major Incident Response Vehicle (MIRV) was on scene to provide shelter for residents
The fire was declared under control at 2:06 p.m. Most of the damage was contained to the suite where the fire started.
Damage estimates are not available at this time and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
