Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Portage Avenue

Winnipeg, MB – At 12:27 p.m. on Tuesday, February 20, 2024, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of fire in a three-story apartment building in the 3500 block of Portage Avenue.

When crews arrived to the scene, they found smoke coming from the building. Crews entered the building and used hoses to fight the fire from inside. The fire was brought under control at 1:10 p.m.

Crews completed a search of the building. Some residents were home and were asked to shelter in place while crews put the fire out. No injuries were reported.

Some residents were not able to return to their suites due to smoke, fire, and water damage. The City of Winnipeg’s Emergency Social Services (ESS) team was deployed to assist the displaced residents in finding temporary accommodations.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. Damage estimates are not available at this time.
