Residential Parking Ban starts Sunday, January 14

Released: January 12, 2024 at 10:02 a.m.
Drivers reminded to check zone and schedule before parking, park elsewhere during ban to avoid ticket and tow

Winnipeg, MB – The time has come to clear residential neighbourhoods of ice and snow.

A residential parking ban will be in effect Sunday, January 14 at 7 p.m. until Wednesday, January 17 at 7 a.m.

•    The temporary extended winter route parking ban remains in place until 7 a.m., Sunday, January 14.

•    The winter route parking ban comes into effect at 2 a.m. Tuesday, January 16.

We will suspend the winter route parking ban for the duration of the residential parking ban.

This means drivers may park overnight on designated winter routes Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday night.

Drivers must continue to adhere to any temporary or unrelated on-street signage that may prohibit parking on these routes. This includes things like no parking during rush hour and loading zones.

The winter route parking ban will resume at 2 a.m. on Thursday, January 18. This will once again prohibit parking on designated winter routes daily, from 2 a.m. to 7 a.m.

Moving forward, this suspension will occur with each residential parking ban. It is meant to provide more parking options during residential plowing operations.

Additional information
Vehicles parked in violation of the residential parking ban may:

  • Receive a $200 ticket ($150 if paid early)

We will use Automated License Plate Recognition (ALPR) technology to identify vehicles parked illegally.

This technology helps us:

  • Enforce parking restrictions across more of the city
  • Improve compliance with restrictions
  • Improve our snow clearing service

ALPR tickets will be mailed rather than put on windshields. Enforcement officers will continue to hand-deliver tickets when necessary.

Anyone who believes their vehicle may have been towed should contact 311 for help locating it.

Reporting a missed street:
Residents should wait until the ban is lifted as crews may return at any point before the residential parking ban is lifted.

Residents can report a missed residential street after Wednesday, January 17 at 7 a.m. by:

Residents can request sanding using the sanding request form.

Additional information:
Approximately 300 pieces of heavy equipment will be used for this snow clearing operation. We remind people to drive to conditions and to use extreme caution when driving near heavy equipment.
