Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Young Street

Winnipeg, MB – At 5:28 p.m. on Tuesday, November 21, 2023, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a seven-storey apartment building under construction in the 300 block of Young Street.

When crews arrived to the scene, they found heavy smoke and flames coming from the structure. They attacked the fire from the exterior and once conditions improved they were able to enter the building to complete extinguishment of the hotspots.

Aerial and thermal imaging views from the WFPS drone were used to help direct water streams and locate hotspots. The fire was declared under control at 6:18 p.m.

Crews completed a search of the building and no occupants were found. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. The structure suffered significant fire and smoke damage.

Damage estimates are not available at this time.
