Released: November 13, 2023 at 4:27 p.m.

Winnipeg, MB – At 11:20 a.m. on Monday, November 13, 2023, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to a monitored fire alarm in Ecole Guyot School at 400 Willowlake Cres.

When crews arrived to the scene, they found smoke and flames coming from the roof of the structure. They immediately launched a fire attack, declaring the fire under control at 12:39 p.m.

All students and staff at the school safely self-evacuated. No injuries were reported. Buses were brought to the scene to transport students to another location where parents and caregivers were directed for pick-up.

The preliminary investigation suggests the fire was accidental, caused when a heat system on the roof malfunctioned.

Damage was mostly confined to the gymnasium area of the school. Damage estimates are not available at this time.
