Winnipeg, MB – At 9:56 a.m. on Tuesday, November 7, 2023, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to a monitored fire alarm in a 10-storey apartment building on Carlton Street.
Upon arrival on scene, crews found smoke coming from the building. Crews located and quickly extinguished the fire. They then worked to ventilate smoke from the building.
Some residents self-evacuated from the building and some sheltered in place in their suites. A Winnipeg Transit bus was deployed to the scene to provide shelter for evacuees. No injuries were reported.
Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the suite where it originated, but 16 additional suites sustained water damage and were not able to be re-occupied. Building management was working to arrange temporary accommodations for the displaced residents.
Preliminary observations suggest the fire was accidental. Damage estimates are not available at this time.
