Released: October 18, 2023 at 6:30 p.m.

Winnipeg, MB – At 1:36 p.m. on Wednesday, October 18, 2023, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a long-term care facility on Poseidon Bay.

When crews arrived to the scene, they found smoke in the facility and learned that a fire originating in the boiler room was extinguished by facility staff. WFPS crews extinguished hotspots and ventilated smoke from the building.

Residents and staff at the facility were able to shelter in place. No injuries were reported.

Preliminary observations suggest the fire was accidental, caused by a failure in the boiler system.
