Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Alexander Avenue

Released: October 6, 2023 at 11:29 a.m.

Winnipeg, MB – At 6:36 a.m. on Friday, October 6, 2023, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a one-and-a-half storey, single family house in the 1200 block of Alexander Avenue.

When crews arrived on scene, they found smoke coming from the house. They attacked the fire from inside the house, declaring the fire under control at 7:21 a.m.

The lone occupant of the house safely self-evacuated with their two dogs. The City of Winnipeg’s Emergency Social Services (ESS) team helped the resident in finding temporary accommodations.

A firefighter sustained an injury while at the scene. They did not require transport to hospital. No other injuries were reported.

Preliminary observations suggest the fire was accidental, caused by an overheated battery. Damage estimates are not available at this time.
