Winnipeg, MB – In the morning on Monday, September 11, 2023, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to two structure fires.
Alexander Avenue
At 5:34 a.m., the WFPS responded to reports of a fire in a house in the 700 block of Alexander Avenue. When crews arrived on scene, the fire had spread to two neighbouring houses.
Firefighters attacked the fire from the outside while searching for people inside the building. Paramedics treated one person and transported them to hospital in stable condition. All other occupants safely self-evacuated before crews arrived.
Firefighters declared the fire under control at 7:38 a.m.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. No damage estimates are available, but one home is expected to be a total loss.
Main Street
At 8:39 a.m., the WFPS responded to reports of a fire in a three-storey apartment in the 700 block of Main Street.
At the scene, crews found smoke coming from the building. Firefighters attacked the fire from the inside, declaring the fire under control at 9:04 a.m.
The City of Winnipeg’s Emergency Social Services (ESS) team responded to the scene to help displaced residents find temporary accommodation.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. No damage estimates are available.
