Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to two fires

Winnipeg, MB – The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to two fires on the morning of August 14, 2023.

Flora Avenue fire

At 1:09 a.m., the WFPS responded to reports of a fire in a two-storey, single-family home in the 300 block of Flora Avenue.

When crews arrived to the scene, they found heavy black smoke coming from the structure. Crews initially fought the fire from the exterior of the house, but once smoke and fire conditions improved, they were able to enter to complete extinguishment of the fire. The fire was declared under control at 5:06 a.m.

Occupants of the house safely self-evacuated. No injuries were reported. The City of Winnipeg’s Emergency Social Services (ESS) team responded to the scene to help displaced residents in finding temporary accommodations.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. Damage estimates are not available at this time, but the house is expected to be a complete loss.

Osborne encampment fire

At 6:51 a.m., the WFPS responded to reports of a fire on the riverbank near the Osborne Street Bridge.

Upon arrival on scene, crews found an encampment engulfed in flames. The fire was quickly extinguished. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
