Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to three structure fires

Winnipeg, MB – On Thursday, July 6, 2023, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to two structure fires believed to be caused by lightning strikes, on Granada Crescent and Walden Crescent.

At 7:05 p.m., WFPS responded to reports of a structure fire in a house in the 0-100 block of Granada Crescent. Firefighters attacked the fire and it was under control at 7:30 p.m. No injuries were reported. No damage estimates are available.

At 7:31 p.m., WFPS responded to reports of a structure fire in a bungalow in the 0-100 block of Walden Crescent. At the scene, crews saw smoke coming from the house. Firefighters attacked the fire, declaring it under control at 8:14 p.m. Everyone was already out of the house at the time of the incident. One firefighter sustained a minor injury and was assessed on scene, but did not require transportation to hospital. Two cats were located at the scene. No damage estimates are available.

Maryland Street fire
At 4:14 a.m. on Friday, July 7, 2023, WFPS responded to reports of a fire in a vacant house in the 400 block of Maryland Street.

At the scene, crews saw heavy flames and smoke coming from the house. Firefighters attacked the house from the outside because it was unsafe to enter. This house sustained damage from a previous structure fire on January 14, 2022, which may have contributed to structural instability.

The fire was under control at 4:56 a.m. The cause of the fire is under investigation. No damage estimates are available.
