Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Kennedy Street

Released: June 25, 2023 at 4:45 p.m.

Winnipeg, MB – At 11:28 a.m. on Sunday, June 25, 2023, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to a monitored fire alarm in an eight-storey apartment complex in the 300 block of Kennedy Street.

When crews arrived to the scene, they found smoke coming from a suite. With the potential for high life hazards when dealing with a high-rise, a second alarm was called which increased the number of crews on scene. Crews fought the fire from inside the building, declaring the fire under control at 11:53 a.m. Damage was contained to the suite where the fire originated.

Some resident self-evacuated from the building. Others were able to shelter in place in their suites. No injuries were reported. The City’s Emergency Social Services team assisted the displaced residents in finding temporary accommodations.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. Damage estimates are not currently available.
