Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Alfred Avenue

Winnipeg, MB – At 12:14 p.m. on Friday, October 15, 2021, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in a vacant, single-storey duplex in the 600 block of Alfred Avenue.

When crews arrived on-scene, they encountered a well-involved fire that was threatening neighbouring homes. They launched a defensive attack, applying water to affected areas using an aerial ladder and handlines. The fire was declared under control at 1:45 p.m.

Neighbouring homes were temporarily evacuated as a precaution. No injuries were reported.

Crews are expected to be on scene for an extended period of time addressing hotspots. Alfred Avenue is closed between McGregor Street and Parr Street. Residents are advised to avoid the area.

The vacant property sustained damage from a previous fire in 2020. The building is considered a total loss. The cause of the fire is under investigation. No damage estimates are available at this time.
